Creative Camping: Five Fantastic S’mores Recipes

It’s camping season. And whether you’re one to rough it in the woods or the total glamper (I just learned this one, get it? GLAMper?), you know the key ingredients to any killer camping trip are some kickass s’mores. But that marshmallow/chocolate/graham cracker goodness is kinda cliche. So let’s get creative. We’ve come up with five ridiculous ways to make s’mores this summer. And believe me, these won’t disappoint.

Banana Split

  • 1 banana
  • 1 strawberry
  • A few flat chocolate squares with nuts
  • 1 large marshmallow
  • Graham crackers

Skewer the strawberry, the banana, and the marshmallow kebab-style. Toast over the fire to preferred level of perfection. (Yeah we know, some like it burnt.) Add nutty chocolate squares and sandwich it all between two graham crackers, you know the drill from here.

Peanut Butter Cup

  • 1 peanut butter cup, the big kind
  • 1 large marshmallow
  • Graham crackers

This one stays fairly true to tradition; we’re just replacing the boring old slice of chocolate to a full-on peanut butter cup. Alternatively, if you’re getting adventurous with candy, try a peppermint patty for a mint-chocolate experience.

Salted Caramel

  • 3 or 4 mini pretzels
  • Flat chocolate squares
  • About a tablespoon of caramel sundae topping
  • 1 large marshmallow
  • Graham crackers

Warning, this one might get a little messy. But that’s what you love, right? Get your grahams ready to go (line the bottom one with pretzels and the chocolate squares) and then get to toasting. When the marshmallow is done, dip it right in the caramel and sandwich it up!

Cinnamon Apple

  • A few apple slices (thin)
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • 1 large marshmallow
  • Graham crackers

Brush the apple slices with cinnamon and then warm over the fire. Place on one side of graham cracker. Toast the mallow and proceed accordingly!

Strawberry Nutella

  • 1 spoonful hazelnut spread
  • 1 or 2 strawberries, sliced
  • 1 large marshmallow
  • Graham crackers

Spread the Nutella on both graham crackers, then add the sliced strawberries (you can warm these over the fire, if so you choose). Toast marshmallow, sandwich it, enjoy!
